Snowy Church & Bin Photos

Ouch! Temp was   -35C/-31F this morning but it felt like -47C/-52F with the windchill.  I needed to travel 1.5 hrs south today to bring the boys to a Kid's Christmas party for hubby's work. It's a free 2 hr swim plus games, food, Santa and a $25 gift. The boys look forward to this party so off we went. Although it was cold, the sun was glistening off the snow.
I thought I'd show you some photos I took on Thurs. The first one is the Sacred Heart church right in Montmartre. I really like this photo except I wish the telephone pole and lines weren't in the way.

This second photo was taken on the way to Montmartre and is just a snowy grain bin scene that caught my eye.

I don't know how long we'll be in this deep freeze but I sure wish it'd go away for awhile. I don't mind it being this cold in Jan when all I have to do is huddle in the house but with only 11 days before Christmas, I've got places to go and gifts to buy.

So how's the weather in your neck of the woods?

  1. We went Christmas Tree hunting - pictures on my blog (Janet's Journal)- on Saturday when the wind was whipping up whitecaps on the ocean. It was -15 with the wind and everyone thought we were crazy. But I knew that it was close to -50 with the wind in Saskatchewan, so I thought it was a perfect day.

Love the church pictures, Anita - and didn't even notice the cables until you mentioned them.

Great 'talking' to you on MSN yesterday :) Stay warm!

  2. It was cold and rainy for VA Beach. In the high 30's (farenheit). Nothing like you. If you send me that church picture, I can remove the telephone pole and lines just as pretty as you please. It definitely looks like a Christmas postcard. You take the best pix, Anita.

  3. Janet, do you really have a view of the ocean? I would get cold just looking at the whitecaps but the view would be so inspiring.

Yes, I enjoyed the MSN chat, too. Too bad we had to keep it to business. Can't figure out why you kept dropping out though. I must say transferring to a new window every time was unique.

You have a blog? I think that's the second time you mentioned it. I'll have to go check it out.

    Thanks for dropping in.

  4. Gee Deb, thanks for the offer. I think I may have the solution though...I believe I can remove them with PhotoShop, no? I've been interested in PhotoShop ever since Lisa, our artistic person made up the site of my other group blog at www.inkwellinspirations.blogspot.com. Deb, you should really go over and check it out. Her artwork is lovely. She's made matching bookmarks and badges for us. Plus, she makes these headers for us for every day we post. And she does it all on Photoshop.

Now a little birdie told me I'm getting Photoshop for Christmas. So I'm hoping I'll be able to take those power lines out myself, eh. But I might be calling on you if I can't or have problems. I appreciate the offer.

Coming from a graphic designer such as yourself, you can't imagine the thrill your compliment gives me. It's all the encouragement I need to go out and shoot some more. :)

  5. PhotoShop is definitely the way to go for fixing details. I'm happy you are getting it for Christmas. With all your photo taking, you'll find good uses for it.

I will be more than happy to give you pointers, if and when you need them. Note: not many people make use of the tutorials the program provides... but they do help beginners a bunch.

  6. Sun glistens the ice on bare tree limbs.

    Chilly but beautiful.

BTW, I LOVE pictures of old grain bins!!! Harold Gregor, a local artist, used to paint them...before he got famous!!

    Merry Christmas!!

  7. Deb, that's funny what you're saying about the tutorials because I used to watch them but over time, I've sort of got in the habit of skipping them. I'll watch the PhotoShop one though because I want to get every little nuance out of the program. And then I'll check in with you for tips. :D

  8. Patti, I'm not familiar with Harold Gregor so I just googled him but didn't see grain bin pics. Lots of others though. He must've sold them. :D I only did a fast look at his site, though.

You reminded me of Yvette Moore of Moose Jaw, Sask (2 hrs west of me) who paints wonderful realistic prairie pics, many with kids in them. She even has books out like The Prairie Alphabet.

After I posted my grain bin pic I kept thinking it looked kind of bland considering the seasonal quality to the church one, you know? But I feel calm whenever I see farm pics like that.

So thank you for speaking up. I appreciate it.

And Merry Christmas to you, too.
